Work in Progress

"Work in Progress" Oil on Canvas  /  40" X 60"  /  1998
"This table-top still life is a collection of some of the props and possessions that I use in many of my paintings. Some are chosen for their symbolic significance and others purely for their aesthetic properties. The Bart doll appears in more paintings, I think than any other object. My late partner Rollie and I both loved the "Simpsons" from the time they first appeared on the Tracey Ullman Show. One Christmas morning Bart appeared under the tree as a gift from Rollie and has been a cherished possession of mine ever since. The collection of objects became a symbol of the residue we leave behind on our way through this "work in progress" we call life."
