Sunday Afternoon

"Sunday Afternoon" Oil on Canvas  /  48" X 48"  /  1981
"This is one of the first interiors in my mature style. It was painted in my apartment/studio in Woodstock, NY in the early 80's, since at that time I could not afford to live and work in separate locations. The vantage point of looking through the doorway that we see here and in later interiors has always symbolized for me the life transitions that we either choose to make or that are forced upon us by circumstance. The doorway seems a perfect symbol for this idea as we are only given a clue to what lies beyond and as such can stimulate wonder and mystery. This painting won the New York Graphic Society Award at the National Academy of Design Show in New York City."

Available as a Limited Edition Giclée Print
