Two by Two

"Two by Two" Oil on Canvas  /  40" X 60"  /  1996
"For me, there is nothing that suggests mystery and romance better than incandesent lamp light. That spirit formed the underpinnings of the concept for this painting. Most of us have felt the yearning for connection to another which seems to be hardwired into each of us to a greater or lesser degree by mother nature. This painting speaks to that desire. Rennaisance painting was rich with pictoral symbolism. Borrowing from that symbolism, the oranges here refer to the fleeting and temporal nature of life and also the carnal desires of man."
