Erin’s Flower

"Erin's Flower" Oil on Canvas  /  62" X 54"  /  2000
"Four years and four months ago my life took a turn that I never would have anticipated before that. July 23.1996 was the day my daughter Erin Rose Haney was born. Though not mine by blood, it would be impossible to love her any more deeply if she were. Beautiful does not begin to describe her although I guess that's what all parents think. I can't describe how lucky I feel that she is in my life and that I'm being given the chance to see life again through her innocent eyes. As you can see from the painting, she is also a talented little artist in her own right. "F is for Flower" is a finger painting she made for me in pre-school with paper plate and construction paper, which became the inspiration for this piece. My hope is that long after I'm gone, when she remembers this painting she will hear the words I whisper in her ear each time I leave her...... "Papi loves you.""
